High Speed Doors for Exterior Applications
High speed doors function as an optimal solution to your industrial facility’s barrier initiatives. By opening and closing quickly and safely, high speed doors provide your warehouse operations safety, optimal separating processes and the energy savings you need in an efficient manner.
Types of high speed doors, however, do vary. Each has its own functionality, purpose and restrictions. While many are used exclusively for interior use, there are times when high speed doors are needed for exterior applications. When this is the case, Rite-Hite has the exterior high speed door solution for you.
Differences Between High Speed Door Exterior and Interior Applications
You might be wondering why all high speed doors can’t be used for both internal and external applications. The answer to this is two-fold:
- Each door will serve a different purpose based on the quantity and type of traffic moving through it.. For instance, if your door is going to be in a position that requires that it be able to withstand certain levels of impact, whether that be from equipment or environmental factors like wind, you need a specific type of high speed door solution.
- Based on the objective requirements, doors are created with different materials and different strengths/thickness. Using DuraMax as a curtain material example, interior applications will often call for a thickness of 60 mil while exterior applications should be at least 100 mil (although both can be used for interior). Additionally, exterior doors are designed to be “driven down” rather than the “gravity down” design that is standard to interior doors. Gravity down lacks the stability at the bottom that is needed to combat environmental factors, namely wind.

FasTrax LD High Speed Doors
Boasting the industry’s highest operating speeds, the FasTrax LD’s single operational platform can be used for interior, exterior, cooler, freezer and high wind applications.
TrakLine Fold Door
A substantial seal on the TrakLine Fold Door helps provide environmental separation and weather protection for exterior applications.
TrakLine Fold Door PLUS
Like the TrakLine Fold Door, the TrakLine Fold Door PLUS features a substantial seal that provides environmental separation and weather protection. In addition, the PLUS features the ability to operate in high winds with a fold-up design and horizontal stabilizers.
Environmental control and separation at the opening along with safety and efficiency is the objective of high speed industrial doors. While functioning in similar fashion, there are circumstances when your exterior applications require the stability that not all high speed doors can provide. That’s when you can depend on Rite-Hite to provide the High Speed Industrial Door that will address your exterior application needs.
