Dok-Lok Vehicle Restraint

Dok-Lok LDL and SDL vehicle restraints from Rite-Hite Corporation help prevent accidents due to unexpected trailer separation from the dock, and improve safety at more loading docks around the world than any other vehicle restraint.
The unique Dok-Lok rotating hook design gives it the ability to help prevent more types of loading dock accidents that vertical barrier restraints. The Dok-Lok hook can wrap up and over the ICC bar, securing the trailer to the dock to help prevent accidents due to early departure, trailer creep and trailer walk; Plus, the rotating hook design also allows this restraint to help limit vertical trailer movement that can result from landing gear collapse, and has helped prevent trailer tipover accidents as a result.

The Dok-Lok restraint has several distinguishing features. It’s rotating hook gives the restraint greater reach in below-dock end load situations, when the leveler lip depresses the housing of the restraint.

Above-ground mounting moves the unit out of the way of dirt, debris, ice, snow and standing water, all elements that can hinder the operation and durability of a unit mounted on or near the ground.

The Dok-Lok restraint is designed to withstand a pullout force of 32,000 lbs. and is also designed for impact. The unit is automatically and easily positioned by the truck as it approaches the dock face, and is rugged enough to withstand years of repeated hits.

The Dok-Lok communication system is simple and reliable. A system of signs and red and green lights inside and outside the dock help truck drivers and dock workers know when it is and isn’t safe to proceed.

Operation of the Dok-Lok restraint is straight forward. When the trailer is in position against the dock bumpers, a dock attendant pushes the “lock” button. The hook comes up to grab the ICC bar and secures the trailer to the dock. The lights of the communication system change to indicate engagement, and loading or unloading can proceed. When operations are complete, the dock worker pushes the unlock button, the restraint us released, the lights change and the truck may depart.

Dok-Lok restraints are an OSHA approved alternative to wheel checks, which have proven to be unreliable in preventing trailer separation from the dock. In the 18 years since their introduction, Dok-Lok restraints have been installed at over 100,000 dock positions worldwide. Each year, more and more companies realize the importance of establishing a safe environment for their employees and install Dok-Lok restraints at their facilities.
