STR-4100 Stabilizing Trailer Restraint From Rite-Hite
With forklifts moving heavy loads quickly in and out of truck trailers on tight time schedules, the loading dock can be one of the most unsafe work areas in your facility.
In fact, a trailer that's not solidly secured to the dock can separate from it -- and provide plenty of opportunity for accidents, injuries -- even death. The ideal solution, of course, is to make the trailer a solid, secure extension of your warehouse floor.
Dock safety is also good business. A safe dock can protect your profits, by helping you avoid medical and workers' compensation costs...product and equipment damage...lost time and lost production...higher insurance premiums...as well as lawsuits and civil damages. Catastrophic accidents at the loading dock can take many forms.
Unless the proper precautions are taken, your loading dock is at risk for a number of costly accidents including: unscheduled departure, trailer creep, trailer walk or dock walk, landing gear collapse, and trailer upending.
Rite-Hite Vehicle restraints have addressed catastrophic accidents for over 25 years.
But these catastrophic accidents are just part of the problem. Chronic injuries that result over time are also a significant and costly problem for many companies. Overall, about 24% of U.S. workplace illness and injuries are back related, costing an estimated $80 billion annually. An unstabilized trailer can cause or aggravate back injuries, as your forklift operators constantly experience trailer bed drop while loading or unloading the trailer.
In addition to worker injuries, trailer bed drop can lead to product damage, another costly setback experienced at the loading dock. For some manufacturers, nearly 9% of all profit dollars are lost to damaged product.
Long-term wear and tear and damage to your loading dock equipment including forklifts, dock levelers, seals, shelters and bumpers is also a loading dock concern, costing your company thousands of dollars each year in repair and replacement costs.
Now, Rite-Hite introduces the STR-4000 Dok-Lok Vehicle Restraint -- a new category of trailer stabilizing vehicle restraint that helps prevent both catastrophic accidents and chronic injuries, as well as reduce costs associated with product damage and equipment repair and replacement.
The STR-4000 Vehicle Restraint reduces many of these problems by stabilizing the trailer's motion in both the horizontal and vertical directions.
Here's how it works. As the truck backs toward the dock, the trailer's rear impact guard makes contact with the STR-4000. With the push of a button from inside the dock, the dock worker easily activates the STR-4000's hydraulic system. The truck restraint wraps up, over and around the trailer's rear impact guard to grip it securely. This unique, omni-directional control stabilizes both horizontal and vertical trailer movement -- helping the trailer to actually become an extension of your warehouse floor.
Inside the dock, signal lights change from red to green, telling dock workers and truckers when the trailer is secure, and when forklifts can safely proceed.
Outside the dock, the truck driver sees a red light and warning sign, indicating he should not attempt to move the trailer.
Once the trailer is loaded or unloaded, the dock worker simply pushes a button to release the STR-4000, causing both inside and outside lights to change, and communicating that the trailer is no longer secured.
By securely stabilizing trailer movement, the STR-4000 eliminates the constant bouncing of a trailer during loading and unloading.
As a result, it's much easier on your personnel. It helps reduce wear and tear on your forklift operators and their backs, by minimizing the jolts and shocks they experience while loading or unloading a trailer. So you reduce injuries and lost time, and maintain higher productivity on your loading docks.
And, when used in conjunction with a Rite-Hite smooth transition dock leveler, the STR-4000 ensures the ultimate in smooth transition technology and performance.
The STR-4000 also prevents the catastrophic trailer separation problems that can cause more serious accidents and injuries. And the STR-4000 will help prevent trailer pop-ups regardless of bogey position -- which means tremendous time-savings and productivity gains.
By ensuring a secure, smooth transition between the loading dock and the trailer, the STR-4000 helps to reduce damage to the products that are being loaded or unloaded.
The STR-4000 also minimizes long-term wear and tear and damage to your equipment. It helps reduce repairs and maintenance on your dock levelers, seals, shelters and bumpers, as well as on your forklifts and walkies.< PreviousNext >
