DOK-LOK Restraints Are Lifesavers At Louisville Bedding

Prevention of a near tip over has led Louisville Bedding to install 20 DOK-LOK vehicle restraints.
Louisville Bedding, a manufacturer of mattress pads, receives baled fiber cloth and thread at its 310,000-sq.-ft facility in Louisville, Kentucky. Distribution manager Phil Stivers says:
“In 1992, we began plans for expanding our facility. Our commitment to safety prompted us to participate in a ‘fly-in’ at Rite-Hite’s headquarters in Milwaukee. The visit allowed us the opportunity to see what we’d be investing in before any decision was made. To date, we’ve had 20 DOK-LOK vehicle restraints installed.”
Tommy Johnson, warehouse supervisor, says: “We knew these restraints would improve safety at our docks, but we didn’t anticipate to what degree. In the most recent incident, a driver was attempting to pull away from the dock when he struck a spotted trailer being unloaded. The spotted trailer tipped, but thanks to that DOK-LOK hook, it didn’t hit the ground. The hook held tightly onto the ICC bar, preventing what could have been a disaster.
“In another close call, two trailers were backed in beside each other. When one was finished being loaded, the driver accidentally hooked his tractor to the wrong trailer and tried pulling away with a person inside. Fortunately, the restraint held the truck in place.
“The restraints have become an integral part of our safety program. No employee is allowed to enter a truck unless a DOK-LOK restraint is engaged. They’re more than a precautionary measure to us — they’ve become a way of life here.”
